Education

We will implement several measures to assure that our schools are strengthened by our project and to support and enrich the county's culture and appeal.

Educational Support

Toolkit Education

We are working with each of the three school districts with jurisdiction over portions of the project area to identify land, improvements and construction assistance our project will provide to build the highest quality grade K through 12 facilities on our site. At full build-out, onsite schools will accommodate all students who are residents of El Rancho San Benito. We will assure that at least one new school will be completed on the site before any homes are occupied. Possible new educational programs funded by El Rancho San Benito, such as the Read First Program, would be implemented district-wide and benefit students throughout the county. We will provide short-term funding and assistance to local high schools until onsite enrollment reaches the level required for a new high school facility. We will work with Gavilan College and other area colleges such as San Jose State to provide additional educational resources for the San Benito Community up to and including graduate level studies.

The Legacy Fund - Part 2

We have heard from many family farmers and ranchers that they want to continue farming and ranching their property. At the same time, they are concerned that development pressures will force them to confront the difficult decision of whether to continue or to sell. One half of The Legacy Fund described in Section 4 above, will be provided to a non-profit entity such as the San Benito County Agricultural Land Trust, for the purpose of permanently protecting family farms and ranchlands. Like the affordable housing component mentioned above, the Fund is anticipated to generate approximately $40 million for agricultural and ranchland preservation in the first 25 years of operation.
